back from break and back to work: resources for coming TEE module on Psalms

the cny break for the seminary is over and we are back to work (at least for some of us lecturers). the students shoudd be crawling back yesterday and today! yes, crawling! because there is a certain reluctance to come back to study. cny for those who do not know is a 15 day celebration! and monday is only the 5th day of the long celebration.

this coming weekend and the next weekend will be a busy time as i have a TEE module on Psalms in PJ EFC center. since, many of the students will be eager to get materials to do the assignments, i post (and re-post) some important links here:

my colleague kar yong highlighted about the sbl free e-resources here:

http://www.sbl-site.org/publications/onlinebooks.aspx

(the link only works for 3rd world countries!)

on the same site, there is also a syllabi resources. one can check out what and how OT courses are taught elsewhere in the US etc and what bibliography is required. in the individual links are links to lecturers' resources. valubale if you can put in the time to source them.

http://www.sbl-site.org/educational/Syllabii.aspx

check our stm website also. i put up valuable links here for many topics. but many students do not seem to be aware of this. go to stm website and click on the left column under 'theological links' or go here:

http://www.stm.edu.my/english/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=17&id=69&Itemid=69

here is a link to the online harper's bible dictionary article on psalms:

http://www.bibletexts.com/glossary/psa.htm

on the same site bibletexts.com, you can access other stuff:

http://www.bibletexts.com/glossary/#booksofbible

for literary forms found in the Bible, go to this link:

http://www.innvista.com/culture/religion/bible/literary.htm

on this site which is for biblical and theological studies, you can get the links to valuable psalm resources here (including articles by dennis bratcher):

http://www.crivoice.org/thewritings.html

otgateway is the equivalent of ntgateway. check it out:

http://www.otgateway.com/

if otgateway is not enough, torreys.org offers lots of background material:

http://torreys.org/bible/

for the history of israel, you can access this link below (it covers the history of other ancient cultures like greece and ANE):

http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/asbook06.html

for another wonderful site on bible history, see this link to bible history:

http://www.bible-history.com/

for jewish resources, chekc out itanakh:

http://www.itanakh.org/

go below to see the online jewish encyclopedia (older version 1901-06 but still invaluable):

http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/index.jsp

and finally, for fans of walter brueggemann, see the unofficial site:

http://sunflower.com/~uman/

with all these links provided, there is no reason why assignments should not have an adequate bibliography. i have marked down half a grade for TEE asignments with come in with less than the required bibliographic entries.

Thanks Anthony for the excellents links and resources.

If I read all these resources, do you think I can get some credits? Please?
credits? certainly, blessed are those who read widely and quote extensively and share freely.

if you were taking a course with me, then i will certainly note your extensive biblography and award 5 extra marks!

hi anthony,

I do like you giving credits for those who share freely.

Only only 5 marks for an extensive biblio!!!
5 marks go a long way. if you have a B+, 5 marks will up it to A-!
