Breaking News: The True Cross Found!!!!!

I’ve just received word from a source in Tel Aviv that a piece of the True Cross of Christ has been found! Indeed, not only a piece of the Cross, but the very part wherein the nail was driven!!!!

I was skeptical too, until my source, Shanks Bar Golan, assured me that he had acquired the piece third hand from a man who knows a guy who found it in a shed on top of a toilet on top of a roof at a Tel Aviv apartment complex.

Here are his conclusions after subjecting the piece to thorough scientific examination:

We tested the inner circumference for DNA and found that the DNA in the wood matched the DNA found in the Ossuary of James, the Brother of Jesus. We carbon tested the wood itself and found that it dated to + or – 20 years 50 CE. We subjected the piece to the most rigorous examination and are completely convinced that, because of where it was found (Jerusalem) whose DNA it is connected with (James the brother of Jesus) and the origin of the wood (around 30 CE) that this is part of the very cross of Jesus.

Oh happy news!!!!! Here are photos of the piece. Please do not reduplicate without permission. This discovery will be published in full in the esteemed ‘Pepperdine Journal of This and That‘ after being subjected to serious peer review (i.e., by antiquities dealers in Cairo).

someone sent me this and i laughed and then chuckled. i hope you enjoy it.

A new York Divorce Lawyer died and arrived at the Pearly Gates. Saint
Peter asks him, "What have you done to merit entrance into Heaven?" The
Lawyer thought a moment, then said, "A week ago, I gave a quarter to a
homeless person on the street." Saint Peter asked Gabriel to check this
out in the record, and after a moment Gabriel affirmed that this was
true. Saint Peter said, "Well, that's fine, but it's not really quite
enough to get you into Heaven." The Lawyer said, "Wait Wait! There's
more! Three years ago I also gave a homeless person a quarter." Saint
Peter nodded to Gabriel, who after a moment nodded back, affirming this,
too, had been verified. Saint Peter then whispered to Gabriel, "Well,
what do you suggest we do with this fellow?" Gabriel gave the Lawyer a
sidelong glance, then said to Saint Peter, "Let's give him back his 50
cents and tell him to go to Hell."

john hobbins of ancient typepad has an interesting write-up on hebel in the book of qoheleth where he uses a modern word to translate metaphorically.

the reb also responded with a provoking comment!
